Hypnosis were formed in 1993 and set about with our own fusion of the main influences
shared within the band, thrash metal and seventies rock. Fronted by Andrew Merriman,
with Gareth Wilson and Mark French on guitars, John Milthorpe on drums and Dave
Griffiths on bass, Hypnosis wrote enough material for a full headline set within
18 months.
Come Christmas 1994 the stage was set, at Huddersfields Polish Centre. Due to the
early departure of Dave Griffiths, the bass guitarist slot was kindly filled by
Guy Farrow (Conquest of Steel). The gig was a success and has started a fan base
varying from young rock music fans to lovers of the old classics such as Led Zepp,
Black Sabbath and Deep Purple.
Eventually the bass guitar position was filled by the frontman Andrew Merriman who
passed over vocal responsibility to guitarist Mark French, who still fronts Hypnosis
to this day.
The eventual outcome of 10 years of constant writing, recording and gigging in bars,
clubs and venues in the north and midlands of England lead to several changes in
the line up, keyboards (Matthew O'Conner) were brought in to replace the departed
Gareth Wilson on guitars and Graham Hoyle has now replaced Andrew Merriman on bass.
The result? Hypnosis still have the groove of seventies rock, the sharp riffs of
old school thrash metal but with the ever increasing dynamic overtones, after hearing
Hypnosis it leaves you thinking only one thing...
Heavy Metal !!
